My blog posts will occur weekly, and will consist of books and writings that inspire. This week, I will feature some examples of my poetry. The first poem is entitled ” TRUTH”, and the second is “Jesus Can”.
TRUTH
If truth be a form of worship, seek the truth and worship God. Your heart will be filled with the Holy Spirit,
As you sing with Psalms, hymns, and spiritual praise, Lift your voices O ye people, sing it loud and sing it strong, If truth be a form of worship, seek the truth and worship God. Do not be discouraged by the enemy, for he seeks to shut you down. HIS truth is marching on, HIS truth is marching on… Ye shall know
the truth, and the truth shall set you free. Though the enemy seeks to destroy you, seek the truth and be free. Though the enemy tries to annihilate you, speak the truth and worship God. Jud and Peter spoke the truth through letters to warn Christians, this was concerning false teachers denying Jesus’s birthright,
and the continuous lies of some. Thou your sins be as scarlet, there is hope for everyone, It is better to be poor than a liar, HIS truth is marching on.
Jesus Can
He’ll take the ouch out of hurt, the aches and throbs out of pain,
He’ll give you bright sunshine, even when the forecast is rain,
Jesus can, nobody but Jesus can, Jesus can, Jesus can.
He’ll walk with you through the storm, you will be safe from all harm,
Even in darkest of night, He’ll be your guiding light,
Jesus can, nobody but Jesus can, Jesus can, Jesus can.
He’ll give you exceedingly, abundant joy, above all you could think or ask for,
All that he asks of you, is that His power abides through and through.
Jesus can, not a living soul but Jesus can, Jesus can, Jesus can.
Discovering History
Little did they know that Africans were the first to make paper out of the papyrus plant. It is very important to strengthen the self-concept of students by telling them that the first university was in Africa, and so was the first education system with grouping by age. They must know that Euclid, the father of geometry, was an African, and so was the father of medicine, Imhotep. Imhotep was also the father of
King Akenatan and King Tut, whose tomb was the richest archeological find ever exhumed.
Our students are not told that Beethoven, Mozart were of African descent. The books of Africa were stolen by Napolean, who set up a library in his name in Alexandria, Egypt. Students are not told that
most of the great scholars such as Socrates, Plato, Pythagoras, and Thales studied for over twenty years in Africa before writing scholarly manuscripts and books. Our students are not told that on the back of the dollar bill below the African pyramid is the eye of Heru, African God of virgin birth. There is an untold part of history not in the textbooks, which we must discover.
Traditional Black colleges have a reputation of educating the whole student by providing courses in the
history of various cultures. Other colleges are beginning to do the same. They are not satiating students with dead knowledge, merely repeating what’s been told; but prepare students with active knowledge
growing out of research and new developments in society, thereby satisfying the needs of society. We must push back the barriers of racism and discrimination well beyond the horizons of their historic origins. To move a people forward, there must be something to guide people, a larger model, something
that represents the spirit or essence of themselves. That’s the role of the major life forces of the history of our people. Our students will realize why they great dancers, if history tells them that Egyptians from Africa had schools of ballet over three thousand years ago. Students will understand why they are musically inclined when they learn that some of the most gifted musicians such as Hayden were of African descent. They will know why they are destined to be great architects and engineers when they learn that
most of the great buildings and monuments in our capitol, Washington, DC such as the Washington
Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Library of Congress, and the White House all have
African influence. This is not only true for our capitol; but the African influence can be seen throughout the world. We built the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, and the Great Temples to worship God, along the Nile River. We were the first to perform Cesarean births, brain surgery, and study algebra, geometry, and
trigonometry. When people cry out asking what should be done to increase minority achievement, I
answer, “Teach them their history which they have been deprived of for so long”!
When the poet Shelley wrote of Ozzie Mandez, he was speaking of African King Ramases II. Poet Robert
Browning was of African descent, and so were five previous Presidents of the U.S., in addition to
President Obama. Our history began in Africa around 3,000 years BC, and Africa is the birthplace of the civilization of man. World cultures are based on African civilizations, and there is no aspect of American society that is void of the African influence. Things as simple as the porch on your house, cornrowing your hair, wearing make-up and wigs, building cellars or basements, and worshipping GOD have African roots.
